My Story

My inspiration for becoming a movement specialist and educator is my mom.  She grew up when sports were “for boys.”  She has been active all of her life and she passed on that love of movement to me.

Movement comes in all forms and she encouraged me to try everything that interested me.

When I was 8-years-old, I signed up for my first dance class and I was hooked. I danced for nearly a decade before taking a break at the end of high school to try other things  like cross country running (it didn’t stick!).

My break from dance lasted a few years until I took a beginning modern dance class at The University of Montana, in Missoula, where I was pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Creative Writing.

The joy and freedom I felt in that class was foreign from the way I grew up dancing; no rules, being on the ground, bare feet, going upside down.

That dance class changed my life and brought me closer to the work that I do today.

I switched majors to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Dance Choreography and Performance.  As a part of my new major I was exposed to Pilates.  I was fascinated.

How could I do all the things I did with my body in dance classes and not be able to do this thing called Pilates?  My curiosity was piqued; I was excited by the challenge and I wanted to know more.

After receiving my degree, I was unclear about what was next for me until I found The Pilates Center of Boulder, Colorado.

It was there, as a student of the Advanced Teacher Training Program, that I found my calling; to teach movement.

Teaching Pilates would allow me to reach a wide range of people with the sole purpose of helping them feel better through movement. Over the last 14 years, I have taken that foundation and built a career honing my skills and developing systems to help make people stronger.

I have learned that every body is simultaneously similar and different: similar in design and structure and different in habits and patterns.  How we move is a reflection of our individuality and yet we can relate to one another as moving, upright human beings.

Most adults connect through our aches and pains.  I would like to change that.  Let’s instead connect by moving and feeling good.
